THE NARROW GATE

A blog that I respect that will lay it on the line is I'm Speaking Truth
In this post he poses a great question...“Is Eckhart Tolle A Christian?”

Mr. Tolle is one of the latest buffoons that is on Oprah's crazy train. He is a New Age teacher that is widely popular and has a large following.

But the question of "Is Eckhart Tolle a Christian?" intrigues me. I suppose the answer could be as simple as:
If Oprah is a Christian then Eckhart Tolle is a Christian.

I think the real issue is what is your definition of a Christian? If it is being good and religious then I suppose both of the above mentioned are Christians.
But if the definition is a person who admits they are sinful and in desperate need of Christ and Him alone then I suppose they are not.

The real question is What is a Christian? If we just give opinion as to what feels good then maybe everyone is a Christian. If we just stick to the Bible as the SOLE authority (sorry to all of my anti-sola scriptura readers) then I think we might find that fewer than we think are probably saved.

I encourage you to read Eckart Tolle's new book. It's awesome and will give you a closer walk with Jesus.

Aw but you're so narrow minded! ;-) Just kidding. Great line.

Don, what are you smoking? Eckhart Tolle's book can only bring us closer to Jesus as a negative example -- by driving us to the Scriptures to be able to put a name on what that horrendous STINK is coming from Tolle's pages.

anonymous,

Why would you encourage me to read Tolle's (who is shacked up with his partner and girlfriend )book "A New Earth" when it says...

The divine life essence, . . . recognize it as one with [your] own essence (p. 4).

There is only one absolute Truth, and all other truths emanate from it. . . . Yes, you are the Truth. If you look for it elsewhere, you will be deceived every time. The very Being that you are is Truth. Jesus tried to convey that when he said, "I am the way and the truth and the life.". . . Jesus speaks of the innermost I Am, the essence identity of every man and woman, every life-form, in fact. He speaks of the life that you are (p. 71).

The Presence that you are, the timeless I Am . . . (p. 105).

Your true nature emerges, which is one with the nature of God (p. 184).

God, the scripture [here, the Hindu Upanishads] is saying, is formless consciousness and the essence of who you are (p. 219).

I noticed you ended your email with the trite phrase "In His Grip."
Whose grip are you in? Tolle's?

Our pastor just spoke about "the narrow gate" Sunday and in fact I posted those verses from Matthew today. He said that the wide gate looks nice and does not say "this way to hell". We have to be careful. Books like Eckart Tolle's and like "The Shack" lead us away from the narrow gate.

50s Housewife,

Thanks for your comment. Tolle is misleading a lot of people. The sad thing is that people would rather go to the church of Oprah or Dr. Phil than one that preaches Christ and Him crucified.

I love the picture of the narrow gate. It fits perfectly.

It's a shame that Christianity is being diluted with this New Age teaching. But Christians are to blame since we didn't put our foot down against these heretical teachings. Rather, we "Christianize" everything so that we can do anything the world does: Yoga, transcendtal meditation, finding the divine in us, and blah blah blah.

How are we to know these teachings are wrong? Sola Scriptura.

JSU,

Thanks for the great comment. I totally agree. If the church as a whole is silent then they can expect heresy to waltz right in the front door.

The devil is rolling on the floor laughing at us...the church has it's self to blame when it comes to issues such as this...people simply dont know there Bibles. If we spent as much time infront of our Bible as we do the TV or computer; maybe things would be different.

Anonymous,

You are dead-on. It is the plague that haunts the church.

It always makes me laugh when i see christians acting in this manner.Although im sure it would make jesus cry.Have you ever read the new testiment?have you ever studied the book you preach so mightily?Do you have any idea how closed minded and judgmental you sound.
I love when when you fanatical evangelic christians spout off and make yourselves sound as uneducated and judgemental as you are.I think anonymous makes a great point.I dont have the answers and neither do you,nor does any book wether it be the bible or eckhart tolles book. The only truth is love and instead of condeming and judgeing we should all look to christ and ask ourselves "what would jesus do".

Your logic is baffling. A religious test of one person is therefore evidence without a religious test for another person?

This is why the church is dying. More and more people are beginning to think, and those thinking people know that people like you aren't thinking.
