A Question for Everyone...What, in your opinion has happened to the church?

Would the early church fathers and apologists be proud as to what the church is like now? Has the church become what God wants it to be? Is it honoring God now? Maybe it is in some areas and maybe not in others? What do you think?

I think perhaps the Church's greatest problem is that it does not know who it is. Ephesians 5:29 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church. 30 For we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones. I think we forget who and what we are and forget as the Ephesians did long ago our first love, Jesus. We do not exist for the happiness and pleasure of man but the glory of God. We can not have the joy of the Lord or the function of the early Church without a realization that it is our need and existence to prioritize our relationship first to Him that holds His preeminence over all things.

You are correct. The church has been in love with itself rather than the Lord. It seems that the church enjoys just doing church.
Very sad.

We have exhanged the power of the resurrection, the newness of life in The Spirit and the mortification of the flesh for the visible, the successful & the popular.

We have adorned ourselves in ornaments and chased after the horses of Egypt.

Too many who have witnessed these things remain silent, for the sake of unity, not purity.

I agree ... I think many churches are trying to be all things to all people. So many have become business enterprises, applying business growth principles to church growth. It's become about numbers instead of souls. Unfortunatly, my church has fallen for Rick Warren's smooth talk and we are losing members -- godly, tithing people. Those of us who know better and are choosing to stay and fight (on our knees) for our church are being frustrated by the "seeker-friendly" focus. We know our pastor is not our enemy, nor is Rick Warren. Our enemy is the power of this dark world and the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. -- Ephesians 6:12
