YELLA

In old movies the coward of the movie was often called "Yellow" or "Yella" (for those of us in the south). We often understood it to be someone who would not stand up for they believed in.

Well, this story is about a group of "Yella" people.

A Christian organization that provides motivational speakers to high schools
has apologized to a school after one speaker made comments that could have been
interpreted as opposing abortion and support heterosexual relationships....

"The issue … was that the speaker indicated a pro-life stance when it came to
the abortion issue, and when it came to homosexuality and/or the gay issue, she
could have been interpreted as an anti-gay stance," Bob Poe......

"We have never taken speakers into the school system to deal with those
issues," he told WND. "I think we would rather that the speakers we bring to
schools not deal with topics that are controversial, that the school desires to
remain neutral about, although as YFC, an organization, we are pro-life and
pro-heterosexual."

Well, this group's name is Youth for Christ. I think they had better change their name because the name of Christ can be very controversial.

My question is "Must we always cower in fear if we offend them with our convictions or salvation?"

Are there any Christians out there that are not scared to stand up for what they believe in and will not cave in to public pressure?

Are you Yella?

Am I yella? I pray that I am not. In the power of God's grace and my Lord's joy I can stand up against anything and anyone who opposes the perfect will of God.

What does this say about Youth for Christ?

Mike,

I'm afraid that we all have been yella before. I pray that He will give me the Words when the time comes.

Well, it makes me wonder how they can still feel credible. It makes me wonder if ministry is more important to them than Christ.

I was reading a scripture and came across this word: Fearful

Revelation 21:8
But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

Now I looked up that word in "the Greek"..it means cowardly or timid.

Made me think of the different times I really "felt led" to "say something" but didn't.

Gave me cause for some personal repentance from that timidness or cowardliness and certainly not walk in that.

Brent,

Thanks for the dead-on comment.

Apparently, "she" lacked the testosterone to "earnestly contend for the faith".
This may be a good example, right here, of why men are to be the leaders in the church as Pastors and teachers.

Kathy,

I could not have said it better.

Thanks,

Hi DT,

I'm on the road right now in California and happen to have Internet access at the motel where we've spent the night... so I thought I'd chime in.

Since receiving God's grace some 22 years ago, I've been afraid of man more times than I'd care to admit; I have not always stood firmly and confidently at the Cross and on His Word.

Nevertheless, as the years have passed, through many tears in the closet of prayer, I've wrestled and rested in the comfort of these passages:

"In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and His children shall have a place of refuge. The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death" (Proverbs 14:26-27).

"The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?" (Psalm 118:6).

"The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?" (Psalm 27:1).

...and certainly, our Lord's own words, "And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear Him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell" (Matthew 10:28).

Blessings to you, DT.

[...and hello to my beloved brother, Mike R. I've missed your articles, Mike, since I haven't been online much.]

1. I'd argue that "Christian Organization" should be edited with quotes and that....

2. YFC now name themselves YFS (Youths for Somebody).

Dead Theologians said...

Tim,

I totally agree with the quotes comment.

The YFS would be more accurate for sure.

Thanks for the comment.
